Job Description

The Summer Communications Specialist position is a full time, 12 week seasonal assignment primarily located at Delaware Nature Society’s Ashland Nature Center in Hockessin, Delaware. The Communications Specialist plays a critical role in helping to communicate camp activities and events to parents, as well as promoting the camp on social media. This position will work closely with camp staff to ensure that all communications are accurate, timely, and effective.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for creating and distributing weekly newsletters to parents, which will include information about camp activities, events, and schedules while ensuring that all information is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Capture and curate visual content including photographs and videos of camp activities and events. These will be used in newsletters, on social media and on the camp’s website. The Communications Specialist is responsible for editing and organizing the visual content to ensure consistency and high-quality standards.
  • Creating and post content on the camp’s social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, and Tik Tok.
  • Assist with answering parent questions and addressing concerns.
  • Help with planning and organizing events such as the Summer Camp Open House, camper events, and the End of Summer Family Celebration.
  • Assist with maintaining the camp website, updating it with the latest information, camp news, photos and videos.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Commitment to and passion for the mission of Delaware Nature Society.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ease and enthusiasm for talking to individuals of all ages.
  • Ability to always interact in a positive and professional manner.
  • Must possess the following traits and skills: Flexibility, dependability, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills, work as part of a team.
  • Experience creating and managing social media content, as well as experience using social media scheduling and analytics tools.
  • Writing and editing skills, as well as experience with creating newsletters or other types of written communications.
  • experience taking and editing photos

Salary and Benefits

The Summer Communications Specialist is paid hourly (pay rate dependent on qualifications) for the 12 week term position divided into twice-monthly payments with all required federal and state taxes withheld.

May utilize shared DelNature housing including utilities if needed and available.
