Growing Up Outside

When I was young, the extent of my time outside consisted of playing in the yard or running around the neighborhood. My family, although big gardeners, weren’t keen on exploring outside. It wasn’t until I became a volunteer summer camp counselor in high school that I really fell in love with nature, Delaware Nature Society, and most importantly…camp.

I loved spending my summers playing in the creek, connecting with campers, learning about the outdoors, and making lifelong friends. After being a summer camp counselor for 3 years, I was lucky enough to be hired as a summer intern and then continued as a year-long intern for 2 years. I had no idea what doors the counselor program would open for me, but I am so thankful for the path it led me on.

Over the past 10 years, my experiences have led me to become an environmental educator and a budding naturalist. In my current position at Delaware Nature Society, I oversee the seasonal programs and summer camp and have launched the popular 20s & 30s Outsiders Club. I feel so fortunate that my 10th summer with Delaware Nature Society will be giving back to the programs that helped guide me.
