Young Naturalist Club (for Middle Schoolers: Grades 6-8)

Monthly on a Sunday
January 22, February 19, March 19, April 23, May 21
9 am – 12 pm

Join this group of nature lovers and explorers. Hike and explore streams, woods, fields, and wetlands in search of reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals at Ashland and local preserves.

Teen Naturalists (for High Schoolers: Grades 9-12)

Monthly Year-Round
Are you a teenager who likes hiking, kayaking, camping, wildlife, and just being outside? Join our group and make new friends that enjoy the same thing! With monthly outings January thru December, we adventure, study nature, and volunteer at least 10 hours for Delaware Nature Society. The 2023 schedule will be released in November 2022.

Eight high school Wilmington youth participate as Trail Ambassadors. In this year-round Youth Development Program, youth explore nature, learn to interpret and teach the outdoors to the community, explore careers, and complete environmental community service projects.

Wilmington Youth Environmental Corps (WYEC) (age 14-18)

Fall and Spring Cohorts
Next Session in Spring 2023

Paid 9-session program for City of Wilmington residents ages 14-18 provides career exploration and exposure to environmental issues. Participants complete after-school sessions held at Dupont Environmental Education Center (DEEC) plus a Saturday field trip. Opportunities for additional hours. This program is run in partnership with City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation Department.

Young Waterfowlers (ages 11–17)

Select Wednesdays Oct-Dec | 6:30 PM – 9 PM

BRC and Delaware Nature Society run this club annually in the fall with events throughout the year. We instill a strong conservation ethic for all of our natural resources. Ages 11-15 for the beginner program and ages 13-17 for Advanced Young Waterfowlers 13-17. Participants study wildlife management, habitat protection, conservation practices, and the values of wetlands. Special topics include identification of waterfowl, conservation ethics, retriever training, decoy carving, safety skills and good sportsmanship. Parent participation is encouraged, but not required. Participants receive a certification card (required for new hunters in PA and DE).
