Trip Overview

Main trip: June 30 – July 6, 2020 (optional trip extension)

Group members will visit Denali National Park, where North America’s highest peak—Denali (formerly known as Mount McKinley)—dominates the park’s six million acres. In Denali National Park, you’ll enjoy an exclusive presentation from a local naturalist plus a hike with Judy along the Nenana River Nature Trail. Bring your binoculars!

While at Denali you can join Judy for an optional float trip down the Nenana River. This is prime wildlife habitat, so be on the look-out for bear, moose, caribou, lynx, Dall sheep and a host of smaller animals.

Other trip highlights include the world-famous Alaska Railroad (in Deluxe Dome Service) for a journey through the wilderness to Talkeetna, with an overnight at the Talkeetna Lodge, where you can enjoy hiking, slightseeing, boating, or just relaxing on the deck with amazing views of Denali.

At the Happy Trails Kennels, home of four-time Iditarod champion Martin Buser and his dogs, you can see a demonstration on mushing and get a chance to play with the sled dogs!

More spectacular scenery awaits on a scenic drive following the south shore of Turnagain Arm, with its dramatic shorelines and majestic mountains.

Plus, during a cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park, be on the look-out for sea otters, seals, birds, and more.
