Stream Watch Calendar

2005 Free Stream Watch Workshops
Stream Watch conducts free public workshops to demonstrate how volunteers can monitor the health of rivers, streams and ponds throughout Delaware. Stream watching is a great family activity! The workshops cover a range of information, including collecting stream insects and other aquatic life, determining temperature, pH, and the amount of dissolved oxygen found in the water. Learn how you can adopt a stream at this workshop.

Technical Monitors Needed
Delaware Nature Society Technical Monitoring volunteers in New Castle County collect data on tributaries of the Brandywine, Red and White Clay Creeks, and the Christina River. This data is currently being incorporated into a non-point source pollution water quality model used by DNREC and the US Geological Survey for the Delaware - Pennsylvania Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) effort for the Upper Christina Watershed. In addition, the data has been published in the Delaware Nature Society's State of the Christina Basin Watershed reports and is published every other year in DNREC's Watershed Assessment Report (305[b]).

You can help this important effort by filling the need for volunteers at the following locations:

  • Husbands Run @ duPont Country Club (Rockland Rd.)
  • Wilson Run @ Brandywine Creek State Park (main entrance)

Christina River sub-basin (volunteers are needed to share two sites with another
  • Muddy Run @ Rt. 896
  • Belltown Run @ Rt. 40

    Red Clay Creek sub-basin
  • Mainstem @ Stanton (Kiamensi Rd.)

    Pike Creek sub-basin
  • Pike Cr. @ 3 Little Bakers Golf Club Restoration Area

To volunteer, please contact Ginger North at 302-239-2334 ext. 100 or ginger@dnsashland.org. No experience in water quality chemical testing is necessary. All training, equipment, and replacement chemicals will be provided free of charge. In addition, all volunteers will be assisted by Stream Watch staff the first time they monitor their site.
