What: Applications are now being accepted for the Delaware Nature Society Summer Camp Counselor Coordinator Internship. This internship provides experience in monitoring teenage, high-school volunteer counselors that assist instructors during summer camp programs. This internship will consist of duties such as:
- Coordinates daily activities of onsite Members Summer Camps from the lodge for 10 weeks.
- Monitors, manages and evaluates summer teen counselors in day-to-day summer camp programs, including assigning them to weekly camp programs, chores, animal patrol, environmental and water play games, snack duties and engaging counselors to be leaders for younger campers.
- Manages summer camp equipment and live animal use.
- Promotes membership and provides information necessary for securing funding sources.
- Lead and participates in End-of-Summer Camp Counselor Appreciation Barbeque and possible canoe trip.
Note: Participates in one week of training (first-aid, canoe and lodge training)
Where: Ashland Nature Center, 3511 Barley Mill Road, Hockessin, DE 19707
When: Mid-June - Mid-August
Qualifications: Applicant must be enrolled in a college or university program pursuing a career in environmental, wildlife, education or a related field. Knowledge of natural history, outdoor skills such as camping and canoeing, and experience working with children and teenage, young adults are highly desirable.
Stipend: $3,045, applicant must have his/her own lodging and transportation.
