These programs are designed to meet state and national standards for students age 6 through 12. Advance registration for all programs is required. Homeschool Program Series
- Pond Ecology
Friday, September 11, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Investigate the water cycle as you explore aquatic habitats. Visit the Ashland mill pond, marsh, and stream and use dip nets to sample the diversity of aquatic organisms and discover their role in the food chain.

Discover the natural world through a camera lens! Use digital cameras to learn photography skills like composition. Print and frame favorite photos to take home, and create a poem to describe the image.
- Fall Raptor Migration

Visit the Ashland Hawk Watch to identify and count some of the 16 species of migrating raptors that pass this point. Learn about the ecology and habits of hawks through taxidermy and take a walk to identify other bird species.

Explore the Middle Run Natural Area and learn about forest succession. Investigate the impact of White-tailed Deer and invasive plant species on the growth of a forest ecosystem. Visit the Delaware Nature Society's reforestation plots and plant trees that will help the Middle Run watershed. Program meets at the Middle Run Natural Area.

Experience the seasonal changes at Coverdale Farm. Explore the farmstead to discover cows, pigs, chickens and sheep. Learn the lore of the scarecrow, harvest a pumpkin from the patch and board a hay wagon for a journey around the farm.
- Native Americans in Delaware - The Lenape

Learn about the culture and customs of Delaware's Lenni Lenape tribe. Visit a replica lodge, investigate tools, clothing, hunting methods, games, stories, and plants, and discover the Lenape's dependence on nature for survival.
- Mill and Machines

Explore historic Cooch-Dayett Mills and discover how water makes energy for humans. Experience forces firsthand and use simple machines to understand how the Mill works. Tour the Mill to complete a simple machine scavenger hunt.
