Winter Classroom Outreach
January - March
GRADES PK - 5 - Time: 1-1.5 hours
Bring nature inside your classroom this winter by scheduling one or more Outreach programs. Exciting hands-on outreach lessons (1-1.5 hours each) add new dimensions to your curriculum. Our naturalists can visit your classroom Monday-Friday. Reservations accepted year round.
Grades PK-5 - REPTILES & AMPHIBIANS
Learn fascinating facts about frogs and toads, get the scoop on salamanders, hear lizard and turtle tales, and meet snakes galore during this exciting live animal program. Discover their special adaptations, curious habits and fascinating life cycles while experiencing a hands-on program that is sure to captivate.
Grades PK-5 - NATIVE WILD ANIMALS
Meet a variety of live and mounted animals that are native to this region. Turtles, rabbits, snakes, fox, owls, hawks and others. Learn how wild animals fend for themselves.
Grades PK-5 - SEASONS & THE LENNI LENAPE
Learn how the Lenni Lenape lived and how the changing seasons affected their activities. Students will use stone and bone tools, feel real animal skins and hear a Lenape legend. Extend your lesson with the optional Lenape Activities segment which includes creating Lenape clay coil pots or a tool-making activity. (Additional $2/student).
Grades PK-5 - NATIVE BIRDS
Learn about our native bird life. See many mounted specimens as we study these beautiful and interesting feathered animals and the diversity of lifestyles and species in our region.
Grades PK-5 - "UNHUGGABLES"
Spiders, bats, snakes and lizards - all animals that make many people shudder. Learn about the remarkable role these less popular animals play in the balance of nature and explore their wondrous adaptations.
Grades 2-6 - SKULL STUDY
Handle and classify a variety of skulls from local mammals, birds, and reptiles. Explore the structures of the teeth and skulls to determine their function and how the animals live in their environments.
