Farm Fun Day - Every Wednesday!

Pack up your picnic lunch, bring along some friends and come to Coverdale Farm Preserve located on Way Road in Greenville, Delaware. Visit the farm animals, talk with the gardeners and spend some time outdoors. No reservations needed.

Farm Fun Day - Back for 2011...Saturday Morning Chores!

Join us the third Saturday of each month May - September to help take care of our animals. Milk the cow, feed the animals, and assist with all of the other jobs we do 365 mornings per year. Stay after chores for a quiet stroll around the farm and pack a snack to enjoy at the picnic tables.

Enjoy a late summer evening strolling from the historic farmstead to the fields of late season wildflowers of the Coverdale Farm Preserve. Keep your eyes skyward for nighthawks and migratory songbirds. Upon reaching the idyllic pond, relax fireside at the stone fireplace nestled into the hillside for a delicious paired tasting of Paradocx wines and Coverdale Farm Preserve heirloom tomatoes. Savor the flavors of heirlooms like the fruity Hawaiian Pineapple, the rich winey Purple Calabash and the sweet full-bodied Matt’s Wild Cherry. Delight in delectable local wines from delicate white to rich red. This will be quite a delicious and satisfying summer night.

Celebrate the end of the day with a truly organic experience at Coverdale Farm Preserve. Harmonize your mind-body-nature connection in the open air of the overlook vista through traditional Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga. Learn the basics of breathing, posture alignment, strengthening, and stretching as well as balance, body awareness, and unity with the natural world. Bring a Yoga mat and dress for easy movement. Sign up monthly or register for the 4 month block. Please note classes are indoors during cold months.

Through the Window in Watercolor

Capture a pastoral view of Coverdale Farm Preserve in watercolor. Design and paint a work of art that offers the viewer a peek through a window. Using the "frame within a frame" motif you'll learn techniques of painting stone walls, farm buildings, animals, and gardens. For the first session of this five session class, bring your camera to photograph the farm. Required supplies will be discussed during the first class and are not included in program fee.

From Farm to International Table: Asian Cooking

Give your locally grown food a global twist with delicious recipes from the heart of the Asian kitchen. Begin with freshly harvested organic produce like cabbage, lettuce, and late season squash and end with dishes that will make your mouth water. Craft fresh ready to eat kimchi and a kimchi to ferment at home, quick salt and sugar pickles, and steamed buns with Coverdale Farm Preserve roasted pork shoulder and lettuce wraps. Sit down to the table together at the end of class and feast on your culinary creations.

Nose to Tail Workshop

Join Coverdale CSA Farm Assistant and Chef Dan O'Brien as he takes you on a culinary journey "from nose to tail." Craft a variety of sausages, artisanal charcuterie, and bacon using organically raised Coverdale pig. Learn how to identify and deconstruct different cuts of meat, knife technique, curing, salting, and exploring recipes that are sure to delight everyone at your table. All materials included, please bring a bagged lunch both days. Participants will end the weekend with a share of the completed products.

Hike to the Coverdale Farm Preserve pumpkin patch to find a field full of this seasonal favorite. Search for the yellow "crooked neck," the gray shamrock shaped beauty, a pumpkin named after a strawberry, and a giant that is blue! How many different types of pumpkins can you find? Make a pumpkin work of art to decorate your house and nibble on a pumpkin snack.

Squirrel's Fall Festivities

Discover one of the farm's native residents during their busiest time of the year. Learn what a squirrel needs to do to get ready for winter. A Fruit is a Suitcase for Seeds

What is the difference between a fruit and a vegetable? Does fruit come from flowers? Do big seeds grow big plants and small seeds grow small plants? Explore the Coverdale garden to find the answers to these questions as well as discover how many different types of "seed suitcases" are growing. Investigate the different shapes and sizes of garden seeds and harvest a few organic vegetables for a healthy snack.

Help wake up the farm and get the day started with morning chores. Roll up your sleeves and lend a hand feeding and milking cows, bottle feeding calves, feeding pigs, chickens, chicks and sheep. We'll clean water tubs, scrub the milking machine and sweep the barn. Refuel after chores with a home cooked breakfast straight from the farm.

Capture the autumnal beauty of the Coverdale Farm Preserve through the lens of a camera. Explore the farm, fields, forest, pond, stream, and pastures of this idyllic 352-acre gem. Learn camera technique, the importance of lighting, and many other photography "how-to's as you tour the landscape with your camera taking seasonal shots. Print your favorite shots and surround them in mosaic style frame that you craft yourself. Cameras, printing equipment, and frame materials are included.

As your animal cookies bake, craft a barn container to pack you freshly baked delights in to take home.

Coverdale Pumpkin Doughnuts and Warm Apple Cider

Start with an organic heirloom winter squash and cook it into a puree. Then mix in spices, flour, butter, farm eggs, buttermilk and a few other delicious ingredients. Chill the dough then shape and cook into the best doughnuts you'll ever taste. Top them with an amazing pumpkin icing and you have an even better doughnut! Enjoy your creations with a mug of warm apple cider for a sweet December afternoon.
