"Delaware and several other East Coast states have a huge renewable energy resource in the form of offshore wind, waiting to be tapped in an environmentally sensitive way. We are pleased with the Department of Interiors recent announcement of the Smart from the Start initiative, which streamlines the application process for offshore wind energy projects. A multiyear federal Production Tax Credit and a high capacity offshore transmission line on the sea floor that can connect several wind farms along the coast - will provide much needed incentives for inventors and manufactures in addition to reducing intermittency.Full development of our U.S. offshore wind resource can clean our air, reduce our carbon emissions, reduce our vulnerability to oil supply disruptions, and provide badly needed American jobs." Chad Tolman for the DE League of Women Voters (12/1/10)
"Delaware and its leaders were pioneers in the Mid-Atlantic region as they recognized the great potential of off-shore wind early on," states Joe Minott, Executive Director of Clean Air Council. "Now we need a full commitment to develop this emission free resource for clean air and the next new source of jobs for our economy."
