The nature center

FREE and open to the public year-round featuring a 10-acre park with flower garden path, a quarter-mile pond loop through a freshwater, tidal marsh and a four-story education center with panoramic views.

The wildlife refuge

We are located on the Wilmington Riverfront in Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is 212 acres of tidal marsh adjoining the Christina River and is home to many types of birds, beavers, dragonflies, turtles, butterflies, other wildlife, and flowers.

Join our fun educational experiences

We offer safe, fun and educational outdoor experiences for all ages and offer programs for schools, teachers, community and recreation centers, faith-based groups, scouts, and professional organizations. DNS provides a wide variety of free and low-cost programs, and works to improve the health of the environment and community.

Spring/summer Center hours:
