Adult nature programs at Delaware Nature Society allow you to pursue your interest in nature in-depth through program series with hands-on experiences, lectures, and field trips.  Programs are taught by experts in their field.

8 Session Series: Learn to create wildlife habitat in residential gardens. Six evenings and two Saturdays includng garden visits. Some homework.

Whether you are just beginning your interest in nature, or wish to gain greater depth of understanding of local ecosystems, take advantage of this spring through fall course! Learn about the ecology of the Piedmont region and the flora and fauna that reside here during eight lectures and field trips led by experts. Each participant will complete a field and classroom notebook to become certified. School teachers can receive 60 hours of in-service credit.

There are many ways to enjoy the natural world. However learning about and interacting with wild creatures may be one of the best. Join naturalist extraordinaire Jim White in exploring the diverse habitats of the Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge. Participate in an illustrated and hands-on program that will take you deep into the fascinating world of the refuge's wild residents. Dogfish beer and snacks provided.

The refuge supports a vast array of creatures that live in and on the water. We will look for frogs, turtles and even snakes, and collect and identify as many fish species as possible. Come help attempt to catch the notorious Snakehead fish.

June 8: Nesting Birds of Coverdale Farm Preserve - Search field, woods, and farm to observe the many species of nesting birds that call Coverdale Farm home. Bring binoculars or use ours.

Freshwater marshes have many rare and interesting insects. We will search for beetles, butterflies, dragonflies and lesser known types of insects such as collembolans and scorpion flies. Try your hand at catching these animals - nets and other collecting equipment will be provided.
