We are dedicated to advocating for wildlife, land conservation, water protections, solutions to climate change.

Our nonpartisan approach is guided by the latest science. In consultation with our in-house team of experts and volunteers, we advocate at every level of government from local to federal for funding for land preservation, endangered species protections, and climate-forward, justice-centered public policy.

We are proud to be the state affiliate for the National Wildlife Federation.

2023 Advocacy Priorities

Clean Water

We work to secure funding for clean water infrastructure investments, effective management of stormwater runoff and agricultural runoff, and removal of legacy toxins in local waterways. As leaders in the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed and the Choose Clean Water Coalition in the Chesapeake, we work to improve both watersheds and the watershed of the Inland Bays.

Land Protection

We advocate for full funding of Delaware’s Open Space and Farmland Preservation programs while looking for ways to increase funding.

Natural Resources

We continue to advocate for conservation programs at the local, state, and federal levels, including EPA’s Chesapeake Bay Program, Delaware River Basin Restoration Program, and cover crop assistance programs.

Climate Action

We work with National Wildlife Federation and other partners to advocate for climate change mitigation, resiliency, and sustainability planning. We support transition to renewable energy sources, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, protection of natural systems that mitigate the impacts of climate change, habitat protection for wildlife displaced due to climate change, protection of scenic byways, and designation of Wild & Scenic Rivers.

Environmental Justice

We work for investments in environmental justice on the federal, state and local level. We also support the Delaware Environmental Accountability Coalition in pursuit of legislation to curb pollution in communities that are overly burdened by related health impacts.

DelNature Partners with Southbridge Residents in the Southbridge Neighborhood Action Plan (SNAP)

DelNature is pleased to be a partner in creating the Southbridge Neighborhood Action Plan (SNAP). This plan addresses longtime economic, environmental, and health concerns that face this historic Black community in Wilmington.

SNAP creates a framework for equitable development, access to resources for residents and entrepreneurs, and a community development corporation to guide its future. The plan makes recommendations for education, workforce development, local entrepreneurship, affordable living, quality communities, improved mobility, resilience to flooding, sea level rise, and other impacts of climate change in a neighborhood that experiences chronic flooding during large storms.SNAP is the result of a collaboration of South Wilmington Planning Network (SWPN), Healthy Communities Delaware, Southbridge Civic Association, and Delaware Nature Society.

Clean Water Campaign Success

DelNature, along with our partners Partnership for the Delaware Estuary and Center for the Inland Bays, ran a successful statewide clean water campaign, culminating in the Clean Water for Delaware Act.

The Clean Water: Delaware’s Clear Choice campaign:

  • Built an alliance of Delaware stakeholders to support sustainable funding for clean water.
  • Supported efforts to ensure that funding for clean water improvement projects places an emphasis on green infrastructure projects.
  • Laid critical groundwork to further educate and connect residents to their local waterways and empower them to take action to improve the quality of these waterways.

We believe that securing funding for clean water leads to a cleaner environment, healthier crops and food sources, improved economy, and increased tourism. In securing support for clean water initiatives throughout the state, we have secured a better, stronger Delaware. Clean water is truly Delaware’s clear choice.

This campaign was funded by the William Penn Foundation .
